Best Heated Airers, Heated Throws and Electric Blankets UK 2026: Coopers vs VonHaus vs Silentnight

Drying washing indoors and keeping warm without turning the heating up are the two big winter questions, and three products help: a heated airer for laundry, a heated throw for the sofa and an electric blanket for the bed. This guide compares them from Coopers of Stortford, VonHaus and Silentnight at M&S, using the figures each shop publishes. Prices are checked every night.

Heated airer, heated throw or electric blanket?

  • A heated airer dries washing indoors on warm rails, without a tumble dryer or the radiators. The bigger the drying space, the more you can hang at once.
  • A heated throw keeps you warm on the sofa or at a desk, so you can heat yourself rather than the whole room.
  • An electric blanket (or under blanket) warms the bed before you get in. Dual-control models let each person set their own side.

Best heated airers: Coopers 3 Tier vs VonHaus Medium with Cover

  • Coopers 3 Tier Heated Airer: 30 heated tubes give more than 17m of drying space. Folded it measures H139 × W73 × D15.5cm, with a 1.8m mains cable.
  • VonHaus Heated Clothes Airer with Cover (Medium): 24 heated rails plus 5 unheated ones across three tiers, 11.2m of drying space and a 24kg maximum load. VonHaus says its 202W heating warms the rails to about 45–55°C, and the cover helps hold the warmth in.

The Coopers airer has more drying space; the VonHaus comes with a cover and VonHaus publishes its power (202W), which tells you the running cost (below).

Best heated throws

  • VonHaus Grey Heated Throw: 9 heat settings, a 9-hour auto shut-off and machine washable.
  • VonHaus Grey Faux Fur Heated Throw: 9 heat settings, a 1–9 hour timer, 260 GSM stripe flannel, an LED digital remote, auto shut-off and overheat protection, and a 2.3m cable. It machine washes at 30°C once the controller is removed.
  • Silentnight Fleece Heated Throw (M&S): supersoft fleece, nine settings, HeatSafe overheat protection and a detachable wire so it can go in the washing machine.
  • Silentnight Faux Fur Heated Throw (M&S): ribbed faux fur with a microfleece reverse, nine heat settings, a built-in timer and HeatSafe overheat protection.
  • Coopers Heated Blanket: a dual-temperature heated lap blanket in a soft fleece-touch material.

Best electric blankets

  • VonHaus King Size Multi Zone Electric Blanket: an under blanket that fits over the mattress beneath your sheet, with dual controllers so each person runs their own side, four heating zones, six heat settings, a nine-hour timer, elasticated corners and overheat and overcurrent protection.
  • Silentnight Winter Warmer Electric Blanket (M&S): three adjustable heat settings, ultra-fast heat-up and super-soft microfleece.

What does a heated airer cost to run?

Multiply the power by the hours and your electricity unit rate. VonHaus's medium airer uses 202W, which is 0.202kWh an hour. At an example rate of 25p per kWh that's about 5p an hour, or about 30p for a six-hour drying session. Check your own tariff's unit rate on your bill; it changes with the price cap.

Safety tips

  • Look for overheat protection and a timer. The VonHaus throws have auto shut-off; the Silentnight throws have HeatSafe overheat protection; the VonHaus under blanket has overheat and overcurrent protection.
  • Follow the washing instructions: remove the controller or detachable wire before machine washing, as the shops describe.
  • Use one heated product per socket and keep cables where nobody trips over them.

Codes and deals

Check the codes box at the top of this guide before you buy: it lists the codes and deals live today at Coopers of Stortford, VonHaus and M&S. A sitewide code takes money off everything in this guide from that shop; some codes only work on certain products or above a minimum spend, and the shop's checkout shows the final price.

FAQs

What is the best heated airer in the UK?

It depends on how much you dry. The Coopers 3 Tier Heated Airer has 30 heated tubes and more than 17m of drying space; the VonHaus Medium airer has 11.2m, a 24kg load limit and comes with a cover.

How much does a heated airer cost to run?

VonHaus's medium heated airer uses 202W. At an example rate of 25p per kWh that is about 5p an hour. Use your own unit rate for an exact figure.

Is a heated throw cheaper than central heating?

A heated throw warms you rather than the whole room, so it uses far less energy than heating a house. VonHaus describes its heated throw as warmth for a fraction of the cost of central heating.

Can you wash a heated throw?

Yes, the ones here are washable once you remove the controller or detachable wire: VonHaus's faux fur throw machine washes at 30°C, and Silentnight's fleece throw has a detachable wire for the washing machine.

What is the best electric blanket for a double or king bed?

A dual-control under blanket lets each person choose their own heat. VonHaus's king size multi zone blanket has dual controllers, four zones, six settings and a nine-hour timer.

How we checked this guide

Every product fact in this guide comes from the brand's own product description, checked on 20 October 2026, and Coopers of Stortford's, VonHaus's and M&S's product pages and product feeds (rails, drying space, power, settings, timers, safety features). Prices are read on each store's own product page every night; the store's checkout shows the final price. We haven't tested these products ourselves, so we don't rate them: we compare what each brand says it does.
